So this morning on Morning Joe, Chris Matthews starts in on how the establishment will have its day.
He mentioned that the Clintons would circle the wagons, that the press would anoint Hillary as the underdog.
That Obama fatigue would set in and between South Carolina and Super Tuesday 1.0 and the wagons would be circled.
I see it. All this flirtation with change would pass, like a flirtatious drink at a hotel bar with a gorgeous flight attendant before a trip up to the fifth floor to call the wife and kids and tell them you’ll be home tomorrow. <–as a married man, this is a horrible sounding analogy. Thing is, if this DOES happen, it only means that the Democratic Party IS in fact married to the Clintons.
If it does…im done.

As a devoted follower of HipHop, I have watched with alternating amusement and disgust as 50 Cent has reached out and grasped headlines whenver the mood strikes him. No matter what the topic or the situation, 50 Cent usually finds a way to sound either just informed enough to sound like an ignorant asshole just for the purpose of his own amusement, or perfectly knowledgeable on the subject but incendiary for the sake of publicity.
Christopher Hitchens has managed to distinguish himself as a master of his craft of rabble rousing in an arena that attracts them.
Today he decides that the Obama navel gazing has sufficiently annoyed him and he decides to go sacred cow hunting, making sure to swing by Bash Chritianity Blvd.
For those of you who aren’t in the mood to link surf, allow me to get to the punch lines…
Sen. Obama is a congregant of a church in Chicago called Trinity United
Church of Christ. I recommend that you take a brisk tour of its Web site.
Run by the sort of character that the press often guardedly describes
as “flamboyant”—a man calling himself the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright
Jr.—this bizarre outfit describes itself as “Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian”
and speaks of “a chosen people” whose nature we are allowed to assume
is “Afrocentric.” Trinity United sells creationist books and its home
page includes a graphic link to a thing called Goodsearch—the
name is surmounted with a halo in its logo—which announces cheerily
that “Every time you search or shop online! Our Church earns money.”
Much or most of what Trinity United says is harmless and boring, rather
like Gov. Mike Huckabee’s idiotic belief that his own success in Iowa
is comparable to the “miracle” of the loaves and fishes, and the site
offers a volume called Bad Girls of the Bible: Exploring Women of Questionable Virtue,
which I have added to my cart, but nobody who wants to be taken
seriously can possibly be associated with such a substandard and
shade-oriented place.
Yeah, Lots of goodies in this one. It’s a shame though. I remember when Christopher Hitchens was merely crotchety and amusing in that Euro-snarky way. Since 9/11, he has been on this anti-religion kick and it just gets boring and predictable after a while.
